Building Permit Requirements
  • New Construction: This includes all new one- and two-family homes.
     
  • System Installations: If you're installing new electrical, plumbing, or HVAC systems, you'll need a permit.
     
  • Additions or Alterations: Any project that changes the footprint, structure, or use of an existing building, such as adding a room or remodeling, requires a permit.
     
  • Fences and Pools: Permits are usually necessary for new fence installations and pools.

Shoreland Permit Information
If your building project is within 1,000 feet of a lake or 300 feet of any navigable stream, you'll also need a Shoreland Permit. To obtain this, please contact Wood County Planning and Zoning at 715-421-8466.
